Since 1926 the Pere Marquette has been one Peoria's most beloved hotels. Over the years notable guests such as: John. F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and Martin Luther King Jr. have been known to stay at the Pere Marquette. Today, the guest of honor was OLLI. For our most recent learning trip, we learned about the history of the Pere Marquette and were taken on a tour to see first hand all of the renovation and expansion projects that started to take place back in 2011.
Our afternoon started with the Farm Table buffet lunch at Table 19. The Farm Table Buffet recently won the Diner's Choice award, and has become an extremely popular option for those in the downtown area during lunch. Many OLLI members were curious where the Table 19 restaurant got its name. We learned that in the original bar/restaurant area of the Pere Marquette, table 19 was the most popular table to dine at and was the area where many birthdays, anniversaries and proposals took place.
Immediately following lunch, Stephany Melcher, Sales Manager, led a tour of both the Marriott Pere Marquette and The Marriott Courtyard. OLLI members were able to see the various reception and meeting space options that both hotels have to offer. One of the most impressive spaces was the coveted Cotillion Ballroom. The newly renovated ballroom space had a fresh, elegant feel to it, but many of the old qualities were maintained and restored including the art work.
OLLI members also toured a variety of suites throughout both hotels, including the Bridal and Presidential suites. The Presidential Suite seemed to be a favorite among OLLI members and everyone enjoyed the view of Peoria from 12 stories high. We also viewed the pool and workout area and toured rooms at Courtyard by Marriott. Both hotels are wonderfully accommodating for their guests because costumer service is always a priority with Marriott.
OLLI would like to thank Stephany for leading a wonderful tour of this historic gem.
